The show features stunning landscapes of mountains she has climbed from Spain to Nepal, as well as complementing imagery of local birds, further emphasizing the sense of expansiveness and big picture perspective that keeps drawing her back to the mountains. 30% of all art sales will be donated to youth resiliency & mindfulness programs both locally and globally. -- Where: Zumi’s Espresso Bar, 40 Market Street, Ipswich, MA, 01938, 978-356-1988 Date: on display now through the end of February, 2020 Artist reception: Saturday, February 8, 3:00 - 5:00 PM Zumi’s hours: Mon-Fri: 6AM-6PM | Sat: 7AM-7PM | Sun: 7AM-4PM --- Who: Joanna Elizabeth Read What: Community Art Show & Artist’s Reception When: Show is on display through February 28, 2019. Artist reception is Saturday, February 9, 3:00 - 5:00 PM. Where: Zumi’s Espresso Bar, 40 Market Street, Ipswich, MA, 01938, 978-356-1988 Why: 30% of all art sales will be donated to support youth mindfulness and resiliency programs both locally, in the artist’s current hometown of Providence, RI, and globally, in both rural & urban Nepal. Since Zumi’s is owned and operated by a Nepalese family, and the artist shares connections in Nepal through her trekking and outreach teaching adventures, the giveback is a natural fit. STORY Beginning her outdoor adventures in 2014 in the White Mountains, Read has since traveled to 26 national parks and has solo backpacked in mountain ranges all over the world. In 2016, she self-funded an expedition to Denali National Park by selling postcard-sized paintings of the Alaskan landscape. This new body of artwork is the artist’s attempt at capturing the deeply spiritual connection she has come to know through the wilderness over the last six years. "I'm making it my mission to take the tools that have helped me navigate intensive life changes over the last decade, namely, movement, mindfulness, community, creativity, and connection with nature, and share these tools and experiences with others in ways that feel empowering, accessible, and purposeful.” |
